CMN Book

In September 2020, Caring Matters Now launched our much-anticipated photographic book
‘HOW DO YOU C ME NOW?’ This stunning book celebrates the beauty and lives of all those affected by CMN and encourages the world to embrace visible differences.

Featured within this beautifully presented hardback are the 30 photographic portraits exhibited at the OXO Gallery, London in 2019 as part of our HOW DO YOU C ME NOW? exhibition series. The 30 striking portraits feature inspiring children and adults living with CMN from around the world; representing 13 countries on 5 continents.

Alongside the full-page portrait images, the HOW DO YOU C ME NOW? photographic book features personal stories of those photographed as well as coping strategies which aim to improve confidence and self-esteem for anyone living with a visible difference.

HOW DO YOU C ME NOW? is a beautiful coffee table book for at home and can also be used as an inspiring resource in schools or workplaces. We hope the images and message will encourage people of all ages to embrace their uniqueness and stimulate positive discussion about visible differences.

Caring Matters Now

In late August 2021 a little 6-year-old boy who has Congenital Melanocytic Naevus (CMN) started in my class. CMN is a skin condition that can be life-threatening, presenting itself in large, dark brown birthmarks which can cover up to 80% of the body. I had read several articles about CMN in preparation for the little boy starting Primary 3, but when his mum introduced me to the HOW DO YOU C ME NOW photographic book, I began to see with my own eyes what CMN truly is.

Teachers Testimonial

The HOW DO YOU C ME NOW photographic book is like no other book I have ever seen. As I opened the pages not knowing what I was going to find, I was drawn in by Brock Elbank’s photos, which were breathtaking. He brought to life through his lens the incredible beauty of children, teenagers and adults affected by CMN, from 13 countries on 5 continents. The portrait images tell real-life stories that words could never fully express, with each person confidently embracing their CMN as a unique part of their identity.

To add to this, I began to read the accounts and stories of each person living with CMN. I began to understand how CMN had impacted each child, teenager and adult. Reading these accounts alongside the photographs was quite an emotional experience.

The HOW DO YOU C ME NOW photographic book has helped me to see and understand what CMN is really like. I am now much more aware of what CMN is and the impact it can have on the little boy in my class. As a teacher, the HOW DO YOU C ME NOW photographic book has given me a greater understanding of the needs of my pupil with CMN. It has also been a great tool to use as we celebrate the uniqueness of each other in the classroom and helped me to appreciate the journey my pupil with CMN is on.

I would highly recommend you buy this special book, HOW DO YOU C ME NOW.
