Research Team

In recent years Professor Veronica Kinsler has developed a CMN research team at the Institute of Child Health, London. Caring Matters Now has the privilege of being one of the main funding providers towards this work.

Lara Al Olabi

Research Assistant half funded by Caring Matters Now & The Butterfly AVM Charity.  Lara studied Molecular Genetics as an undergraduate and Masters degree student before completing this three year RA post with Professor Kinsler.  Lara will shortly publish her first publication on the work she has been doing in CMN.

William Baird

PhD student 3-year Caring Matters Now fellowship. William has started a PhD project entitled ‘Gene Therapy For Congenital Melanocytic Naevi’ with Professor Veronica Kinsler and Prof. Steve Hart. William studied Molecular Genetics as an undergraduate and Masters degree student before starting this Phd.

Dr Maanasa Satyamaanasa Polubothu

Clinical Fellow funded for 6 months by Caring Matters Now and GOSH, then for 18 months by Newline.  Maanasa is a Paediatric Dermatologist who will be working on identification of new genes causing congenital melanocytic naevi and melanoma. She will register for a PhD degree in 2017.

Dr Anna Thomas

Post-doctoral Research Assistant, funded by Wellcome Trust.  Anna studied Molecular Genetics as an undergraduate and later completed a PhD in the genetics of a different rare skin disease.  She has many years of post-doctoral experience and is currently funded by the Wellcome Trust on Professor Kinsler’s fellowship to investigate a particular gene involved in CMN and melanoma.

Jane White

Research Coordinator.  Jane was one of the Dermatology Consultant Nurse Specialists on the Dermatology ward at GOSH for many years, and has come back to work after having her own children.  She will be doing administrative work to organize the research projects behind the scenes and will act as a liaison point for patients involved in the research.  Her email is jane.white@ucl.ac.uk.
